How Many Bags can You Carry-on American Airlines for free?

Passengers on American Airlines are allowed to bring one piece of carry-on baggage and one personal item on board their aircraft, both of which must fit under the seat in front of you. This would apply to accessories like a  briefcase, tote, purse, and laptop bag. Hand baggage dimensions shall not exceed 56 cm by 36 cm by 23 cm, handles and wheels included.

In addition to a personal item, Basic Economy passengers can have 1 free carry-on to every destination.

What is the American Airlines Checked Baggage limit with AA?

Passengers can check up to ten baggage per person on domestic, transatlantic, and transpacific routes. Whenever traveling to, through, or from the Caribbean, Mexico, South America, Central America, or Brazil, passengers may check up to 5 bags; however, it should be noted that these routes have seasonal and year-round baggage restrictions.
For $30, Economy customers on domestic flights can check one piece of baggage. A second piece costs $40, a third costs $150, and any more luggage costs $200.

Economical travelers on transatlantic flights can carry one piece of baggage for free. There are fees of $100 for the first additional piece and $200 for each additional piece if passengers need to book any additional checked luggage.

In some situations, if you qualify, you won't have to pay the baggage costs for up to 3 bags.

Is there a different baggage limit for different regions?

The combined dimensions and weight of checked baggage for all locations may not be greater than 158cm and 23kg, respectively. But, checked baggage for First and Business Class passengers cannot weigh more than 32 kilos. Oversize and overweight luggage are subject to fees.

What if there is extra baggage?

If your checked luggage weighs more than 23kg or is more than the permitted overall size limit of 158cm, additional baggage costs may be applied depending on your route. It should be remembered that these fees are per person and per way, and they are not refundable.
